Woman pulls dad’s prosthetic leg off before biting his face | UK | News

A woman took off her father’s prosthetic leg, straddled him and bit his face in a violent attack. Helena Coyne, who was drinking alcohol during the terrible attack, also kicked her father’s dog.

The 37-year-old actor, from Withington, Manchester, was taken to court following the incident on August 15 this year. He avoided community order custody after admitting causing actual bodily harm. Manchester Evening News reports.

A judge told him: “This was a vicious, brutal and humiliating attack on your own father.”

Gavin Howie, prosecuting, previously told Manchester Crown Court that Coyne’s father was a double amputee and lived with his dog. The court heard “several of his fingers were amputated” after contracting sepsis.

“He lives in a ground floor flat which has been specially adapted to his needs,” Mr Howie added. “On the day of the incident, some family members, including the accused, were visiting her at home.”

“It was said that everyone was in good spirits. The guests left around 20:00 in the evening, except for the defendant, who was said to have changed his attitude towards his father.”

Coyne became ‘furious and furious’ at her father for sending money to his daughter – her grandson. “He didn’t like the idea she was providing him with,” Mr. Howie added.

“As she sat on the couch, he grabbed her by her prosthetic leg and pulled her to the floor. She then got on top of him and bit his left cheek, breaking the skin, and held him there for about 15 seconds. The man tried to push her away, but his grip was too strong.”

The court heard the victim’s dog JJ tried to defend him before Coyne kicked the animal in the face. She left and then her father contacted the police.

He was treated for his injuries, which were documented with photographs. Coyne later called the police and confessed.

He was arrested in a hostel.

When questioned by police he refused legal representation and confessed his actions to officers. Judge Paul Lawton was told Coyne had seven previous convictions for 11 offenses dating back to 2001, including public order and drug offences.

On the subject of mitigation, Zahra Khan made no statement to the court other than stating that her client was ‘actively seeking mental health support’.

“This was a vicious, brutal and humiliating attack on your own father,” Judge Lawton said. “The day was said to be a happy afternoon with everyone in good spirits. But when everyone left, you became increasingly irrational and angry over something completely unimportant.

“Your father was particularly vulnerable due to his condition. You pulled him to the ground, got on top of him and bit him. This was an extremely humiliating attack.

“You immediately regretted your behavior, called the police and immediately admitted what you had done. This prevents me from imposing an immediate prison sentence.

“It is accepted that you were drinking at the time. You deny having an alcohol addiction or any alcohol problems. “You were homeless but now have stable accommodation.

“There is a clear possibility of your rehabilitation. If I impose a prison sentence, I believe it would be completely destructive and not in the public interest.”

Coyne, of Wilmslow Road, Withington, was given an 18-month community order, ordered to attend the ‘Building Options’ program and ordered to complete 25 rehabilitation activity days.

A charge of causing unnecessary harm to an animal was allowed to remain on the docket. The judge also imposed an obligation to abstain from alcohol.

“You should grab this opportunity with both hands,” he told her. “If you don’t comply, you will appear before me and I will have no choice but to send you to prison.”
