Woman shot dead outside Sheffield bar on Bank Holiday Monday

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died in a shooting outside a pub in Sheffield city centre.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the scene at 2.45am on Monday following reports of a shooting outside the One Four One pub on West Street.

A 30-year-old woman who was seriously injured at the scene was treated. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, police said.

Official identification has not yet taken place, but the woman’s family has been informed and provided support by officers.

Following the incident, two men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and all three remain in custody, police said in a statement on Monday evening.

A 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested near Stockport in Greater Manchester in the early hours of Monday morning, while the second man, 30, was arrested in Sheffield, according to police.

Assistant Chief Constable Colin McFarlane said: “This is a devastating incident in Sheffield which resulted in the death of a young woman who was enjoying a night out over the bank holiday weekend.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew and loved him.”

He added: “Our officers are working extremely hard to piece together the events surrounding the shooting.

“Although our investigation is still in its early stages, we will continue to have a significant presence in the region today and in the coming days.

“Bank holidays are one of the busiest times of the year and we know there are people around West Street and Eldon Street who saw what happened or know who is responsible.

“Gun crime causes an unbearable tragedy, and the victim and his family deserve answers.

“We will work tirelessly to provide these answers and bring those responsible to court.”
