Woman’s body found in parked car outside Lake Illawarra police station
Police say a woman was found dead in a car parked outside a police station and had likely been inside the vehicle for days.
A critical incident was declared after police made the grisly discovery in the car park of Lake Illawarra station, south of Wollongong, about 4.30pm on Friday.
Paramedics intervened but were unable to resuscitate the 48-year-old woman.
In a statement, NSW Police said initial indications suggested the woman may have been in the vehicle parked on Pioneer Drive since 6.30pm on Tuesday.
It is thought that the woman was a commoner.
An investigation will be conducted by a critical incident investigation team from the South Coast, which will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
It was stated that the incident was critical due to the proximity of the crime scene to the police station. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Temperatures reached almost 38 degrees in nearby Albion Park on Friday, amid a heatwave sweeping along the NSW coast.
