Woman’s shock after finding camera in restaurant toilet – ‘felt sick’ | UK | News

A British woman said she felt “violated” after spotting a livestream camera hidden inside the toilet of a restaurant in Leicester. He was on a date with his partner at the Giggling Squid in St Martin’s Square between Christmas and New Year when he made the shock discovery. Leicestershire Police were notified and although no arrests have been made it is understood the investigation is ongoing.

The woman said that when she left the stall, she saw only the black camera wrapped in kitchen roll and placed under the toilet bowl. “This makes me sick,” he told the BBC. “I tried to separate myself from it, but whoever did this won, now they have mine.”

“There it was, a little camera, some wires coming out of it, and then there was a battery pack with a kitchen on it, and I was sick to my stomach,” he added.

“The thought of someone watching, especially in such a private space, terrified me. It’s a truly disturbing thing to think that someone now has that.”

Police confirmed the camera was connected to the internet after it was recovered for examination.

The woman encouraged others to “look everywhere” before using public toilets to avoid a similar experience.

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and the device was seized for examination. “Further investigation was carried out into CCTV in the restaurant and staff were spoken to to identify the person responsible.

“Advice was also given about staying alert.”

A spokesperson for Giggling Squid also confirmed that a customer reported a “suspicious object” to staff on December 30.

“Our staff did the right thing and immediately notified the police; the item was now in police possession,” they added. “We are cooperating fully with their investigation.”
