Women’s World Cup 2025: Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh to keep semi-final hopes alive

Sri Lanka took four wickets in the final to complete a thrilling victory over Bangladesh and keep alive their slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals.
Chasing a below-par target of 203 on a good batting surface in Navi Mumbai, Bangladesh needed nine runs from the last six overs.
But Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu took three wickets in four balls and Nilakshi de Silva edged Nahida Akter to give Sri Lanka a thrilling victory.
The victory, Sri Lanka’s first in the tournament after three defeats and two no-results against Australia and New Zealand, took them four points clear of India and New Zealand, who will meet on Thursday.
However, Bangladesh suffered a fifth consecutive defeat and elimination since winning the tournament opener against Pakistan.
