Work from Home, Trading Frauds Cost Residents Rs 20 Lakh

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Station has registered a large number of cases after miscreants duped residents of around Rs 20 lakh through work-from-home offers, hacked mobile phones and fake trading groups.

In the first case, Sanathnagar resident Thaiseen Fathima filed a complaint with the police, alleging that she was cheated of Rs 11 lakh. He was lured via social media with a work-from-home offer allegedly linked to the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The defendant promised him a 30 percent commission by giving him tasks such as opening stock market details and sending screenshots. Under the guise of registration and processing fees, they collected Rs 11 lakh in stages and transferred it to their own accounts.

In another incident, 60-year-old Mohamad Sadique Babumiya Tadpatri, a retired employee of Charminar, reported that he received an APK file via WhatsApp and clicked on the link. His phone was hacked and miscreants seized Rs 6 lakh through online transactions on e-commerce portals.

The third victim, 61-year-old Nagampalli Venkata Sreeram Murthy of Bagh-Amberpet, complained that he was added to WhatsApp groups “Dolat VIP115” and “E69-Dolat Capital Wealth Navigation Programme”, which claimed to offer trading opportunities. He invested Rs 3 lakh in stages, but when he tried to sell his shares, people stopped responding and hung up his phones.

Police said all three cases were registered on Wednesday and investigations are ongoing.
