World Cup 2026: England’s Reece James and Declan Rice to have fitness assessed

England will assess the fitness of Reece James and Declan Rice ahead of their final World Cup group match against Panama.
Rice, 27, limped out of Boston Stadium after England’s goalless draw against Ghana on Tuesday due to a heavy strain on his left calf.
Sources have indicated there are no major concerns that the injury could impact his participation here in the United States long-term.
However, it is understood the matter will need to be evaluated and heard before a decision can be made on whether he will be transferred to Panama on Saturday, as England manager Thomas Tuchel and his team must weigh the risks of playing him.
The Arsenal midfielder was also taken off during the match against Croatia due to hamstring pain.
James will also need evaluation as England approach Saturday’s game against New Jersey.
The 26-year-old completed the full match against Ghana but will be checked by medical officials in the next 24 hours.
The Chelsea captain has an injury history and his load will be closely monitored.
