Wyoming’s Cynthia Lummis won’t seek re-election for US Senate seat in 2026

Republican Cynthia Lummis will not seek re-election for her U.S. Senate seat in 2026, saying it is “an incredible honor to represent Wyoming” in a statement shared on X.
“It is an incredible honor to represent Wyoming in the U.S. Senate, and Wyoming has been my sole priority throughout my time here,” Lummis wrote to X. “Deciding not to run for re-election represents a change of heart for me, but during the difficult, exhausting weeks of session this fall, I came to accept that I did not have six more years left.
“I am a devout legislator, but I feel like a sprinter in a marathon,” the senator wrote. “The required energy does not match.”

The announcement comes after several lawmakers announced their resignations ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, which many political commentators say could be a referendum on President Donald Trump’s second administration.
Lummis became champion cryptocurrency Legislation authoring the GENIUS Act is in the Senate. The Wyoming Republican has been a champion of American energy, including coal, oil and gas, throughout his tenure.
Lummis, who was sworn in on January 3, 2021, became the first woman to serve as a senator in the Equality State.

“I am honored to have earned the support of President Trump and to have the opportunity to work side by side with him to fight on behalf of the people of Wyoming,” Lummis concluded. “Thank you, Wyoming!”
Lummis’ office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
