Wyong murder: Police reportedly investigate cannibalism after 4yo found dead, mother charged with murder

Australian police have launched an investigation into whether cannibalism took place on Saturday after a mother was accused of killing her four-year-old son.
according to Daily MailA 32-year-old woman has been charged with murder (domestic violence) after reporting to Wyong Police Station on New South Wales’ central coast just before 5pm.
The woman’s voluntary visit to the police station led to police carrying out a welfare check at a property in Byron Street; where the four-year-old child was reportedly found dead with “serious” arm injuries.
Sydney Morning Herald Although these reports have not yet been confirmed, officers are investigating the possibility of cannibalism in the child’s death.
The 32-year-old woman was known to police and was charged with the child’s murder on Sunday.
NSW Police Superintendent Chad Gillies said the scene of the alleged murder was “extremely challenging” for officers when the boy’s body was found.
Inspector Gillies said: “It has been confirmed that the child has been injured. I will not speculate further as to what these injuries are.”
“We’re trying to understand what happened, why it happened, and from my perspective, we owe it to that little boy to make sure we get the full circumstances and present them to the court in due course.”
According to the Daily Mail, the defendant did not appear in court for the bail hearing on Sunday.
The case will return to court on September 1.
