Umpire collision helps Mets beat Tigers 10-2 in dominant blowout win

The New York Mets’ offseason priority this year was to prevent runs, and with a little help from the umpire, that’s exactly what they got.
Just about everything went wrong for the Mets this season; They have one of the league’s worst records at 16-25 despite a league-high $334.8 million payroll.
But eventually something stood in their way.

Detroit’s Riley Greene singled to right field in the fifth inning as the Mets led the Detroit Tigers, 3-2, and Colt Keith homered to third.
Keith was safe, passing the throw away from third base, so Keith took a punt and started running toward home.

But as Keith began moving toward the field, he crossed paths with third base umpire Rob Drake. The two collided and Drake fell directly into the field’s grass.
This kept Keith up for just a few seconds, and Keith only needed to be thrown at home by pitcher Freddy Peralta, ending the inning and killing off a rally the Tigers might have needed.
The game went away from the Tigers when the Mets scored three runs in both the sixth and eighth innings and the Mets’ bullpen managed to hold Detroit scoreless the rest of the game for a 10-2 New York lead.

Although the Mets are on the league’s longest losing streak of the season at 12 games, they have won six of their last 10 games and are desperately trying to turn things around.
