Yerragunta HM Wins Praise for Innovation

Hyderabad: Students of ZPHS Yerragunta in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district are known for their innovative approach to hands-on learning. A team of 37 students and teachers recently met with former President Dr. He participated in a science exhibition commemorating the birth anniversary of APJ Abdul Kalam and won the fifth prize. The school built its curriculum around real-world exposure. Students regularly visit farms, rice mills, and crop research centers to understand how classroom lessons connect to daily life. The school also organizes rallies, seminars and festivals to promote science, environmental awareness and social responsibility in engaging ways.

Inter-institutional competitions, Scouts and Guides training and other co-curricular programs form part of the regular programme. Dr Nicolas said Ananda Kumar’s leadership demonstrated how schools can nurture curiosity, discipline and imagination to make learning meaningful.

Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha urged parents to take their drug-addicted children directly to anti-addiction centres, assuring them that counseling and treatment would be provided free of charge. “Do not delay seeking help when addiction is recognized; delay can seriously harm their health,” the minister warned.

The minister, who chaired a review meeting with senior officials from the health ministry and Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TANB) at the Secretariat on Friday, called for close coordination between police and health authorities.

TANB director Sandeep Shandilya informed the minister about the anti-drug measures and stated that people who are found to be drug addicts are brought before the judge and referred to addiction fighting centers for treatment. The health department’s support has been sought to help identify and rehabilitate such individuals, the official said.

Rajanarasimha emphasized that eliminating drug addiction requires collective efforts. He called on parents and teachers to be vigilant and recognize early behavioral changes in children who are vulnerable to substance abuse.

He instructed officials to launch statewide awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of drug abuse in schools, colleges, hospitals, villages and towns.

Auto union wants new city permits

Members of the Auto Rickshaw Joint Action Committee on Friday met transport commissioner Raghunandan Rao and presented a presentation urging the government to issue new auto rickshaw permits within the Outer Ring Road limits.

The panel also raised other long-standing concerns, including the problem of cars from neighboring areas operating within the city, which it said affected local permit holders. Transport department officials assured union members that their demands would be examined as soon as possible and necessary measures would be taken.
