Youth Step Up For Bakrid Sanitation Awareness Drive

Hyderabad: As Bekri (Id-ul-Zuha) approached, young people in various parts of the city increased awareness of cleanliness through a collective effort. The campaign aims to help civic bodies like GHMC clear the wastage as soon as possible.

Bakrid Team, formed with the close coordination of non-governmental organizations, not only raises awareness about ensuring proper hygiene conditions during Eid al-Adha, but also tries to make people more sensitive through social media campaigns on various platforms.
Besides the districts, volunteers also work in areas such as Chandrayangutta, Asifnagar, Miyapur, Rajendranagar, Qutbullahpur, Bowenpally. Saber Yamani, organizer of Team Bakrid-2026, said, “We sought cooperation with the police and also met DCP level officials for further coordination. We started meeting GHMC officials in various districts.”
The movement, launched by community leaders in 2014, now sees activists taking the cause to the next level. They hope to ensure that no animal waste is left in the public eye.
“Over the years, coordination with the municipal authorities has increased and we have focused more on creating public awareness to ensure that the remains of sacrificed animals are disposed of directly in dumpsters with proper packaging such as black plastic bags,” said Muhammad Ali, founder president of the People’s Care Organization operating in Rajendranagar.
This year’s campaign was launched a few days ago by Rajendranagar DCP S. Sreenivas. The team also called Rajendranagar ACP T. Srinivas and requested his cooperation.

Welcoming the initiative, the police provided all kinds of support and called on the public to dispose of waste at designated points. “We ask people to throw waste not everywhere but at designated spots where GHMC can clean it in the shortest time,” the ACP insisted.
On May 28, many of the volunteers representing nearly a dozen NGOs in Bakrid will be on site to ensure the streets are clean. “To ensure that the team ensures proper coordination with the departments, especially the municipal corporation, volunteers meet with them and discuss the requirements for heavy machinery such as dumpers and earthmovers, as well as logistics support and sanitation requirements such as stock of bleaching powder. We hope that this time the interaction with the departments will be smoother than before,” Mohammed Sayeed from Asifnagar near Mehdipatnam hoped.
