Nvidia working on new AI chip for China that outperforms the H20, Reuters reports

Nvidia He said that two people have developed a new AI chip for China based on the latest Blackwell architecture, which will be stronger than the H20 model, which is currently allowed to sell there.
US President Donald Trump opened the door last week to sell more advanced Nvidia chips in China last week. However, sources said that the US regulatory approval is far from being guaranteed in the midst of fears deeply sitting in Washington to provide a lot of access to artificial intelligence technology.
Sources, the new chip, known as the B30A, said that more sophisticated double -scale configuration on NVIDIA’s flagship B300 accelerator card will use a single -scale design that can offer half of the raw calculation power.
A single -scale design is that all main parts of an integrated circuit are made on a continuous silicone piece rather than leaving multiple molds.
The new chip will have high bandwidth memory and NVLink technology for quick data transmission between processors, but also features in the H2Y, a chip based on the old Hopper architecture of the company.
The characteristics of CHIP have not been fully concluded, but Nvidia said that the sources that are not authorized to talk to the media and refuse to be identified, hoped to give examples of Chinese customers to test at the beginning of the next month.
Nvidia said in a statement: “We evaluate various products for our road map, so that we may be ready to compete to the extent permitted by governments.”
“Everything we offer is designed for the full approval of the valid authorities and only for useful commercial use.” He said.
The US Department of Commerce did not respond to a Reuters comment request.
Flash point
It is one of the largest flare points in the US-Sino trade voltages, where China’s latest AI chips, which produce 13% of Nvidia’s income in the past financial year.
Nvidia only received permission to propose the sale of the H20 in July. In 2023, after export restrictions were implemented, it was developed especially for China, but the company was suddenly ordered to stop sales in April.
Trump said last week that Nvidia could allow Nvidia to sell a scaled version of the new generation chip in China after announcing an unprecedented agreement to see the rival. AMD Give the US government 15% of the income from some advanced chips sales in China.
A new Nvidia chip for China can be “30% to 50% discount”, and the chip is a significant reference to the information processing power H20’s “old”.
Both democratic and republican US legislator are concerned that even access to scaled versions of flagship AI chips will prevent their efforts to protect their leadership in artificial intelligence.
However, Nvidia and others argue that it is important to attract Nvidia’s interest in software tools, so that developers do not completely pass to options from competitors such as Huawei.
Huawei has taken great steps in the development of the chip, the latest models are said to be equal to Nvidia in some ways, such as information processing power, but analysts say that software is delayed in key areas such as software ecosystem support and memory bandwidth features.
Complexing Nvidia’s efforts to protect market share in China, the Chinese state media claimed that recently the US company’s chips could pose security risks and authorities warned Chinese technology companies to purchase H20. Nvidia says its chips do not carry the back door risk.
Nvidia is also preparing to give a separate new Chinese chip based on Blackwell architecture, and is primarily designed for AI inference tasks compared to the other two familiar people.
Reuters reported that this chip, which is currently called the RTX6000D in May, will be sold less than the H20, which reflects weaker features and simpler production needs.
The chip is designed to fall under the thresholds determined by the US government. It uses traditional GDDR memory and has 1,398 Gigabayt memory bandwidth per second, leading to the first H20 ban just below the 1.4 Terabyt threshold established in April.
One of the people said Nvidia would deliver small RTX6000D groups to Chinese customers in September.
