Zelenskiy seeks details of Putin’s ceasefire proposal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is seeking details of the short-term ceasefire that Russia offered to US President Donald Trump.

According to the statement made by the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested a ceasefire on May 9, to coincide with Victory Day in Russia, in his phone call with Trump the day before.

“We have instructed our representatives to contact the US president’s team and explain the details of Russia’s short-term ceasefire proposal,” Zelenskiy said on social media on Thursday.

“We will find out exactly what is being discussed, whether it is a few hours of security for a parade in Moscow or more.”

Zelenskiy said Ukraine had proposed a longer-term ceasefire.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and dozens injured in the southern port city of Odesa in overnight attacks in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro, as Ukraine continued to strike industrial facilities on Russian territory for a second day in a row.

Dnipropetrovsk region head Oleksandr Hanzha said in a post on Telegram that one person was killed and five people were injured in a drone attack in Dnipro.

He said a shop, residential building and vehicles were damaged.

In Odesa, regional chief Oleh Kiper said Russian forces launched waves of drone attacks on residences and civilian infrastructure in Odesa overnight, injuring 20 people.

He said Ukrainian air defenses shot down most incoming targets, but hits and falling debris damaged residential buildings, a hotel, a kindergarten and an administrative building and caused fires in many locations that have now been extinguished.

Russia’s Perm region in the Ural mountains, more than 1,500 km from Ukraine, reported a drone attack for the second day in a row.

Governor Dmitry Makhonin said an industrial facility was hit and there were no casualties or significant damage.

He did not give further details.

Krasnodar regional governor Veniamin Kondtratyev said that the fire caused by the Ukrainian drone attack on the Tuapse oil refinery was extinguished, continuing for almost two days and scattering oil products on the streets of the city.
