Zelensky and Macron caught in ‘hot mic moment’ as they discuss Trump meeting at G7 | World | News
Volodymyr Zelensky and Emmanuel Macron were caught on a hot mic early Tuesday as world leaders attended the G7 Summit in France. The two presidents appeared to be discussing whether the Ukrainian President would have a meeting with Donald Trump while he was in Evian-les-Bains.
After greeting each other, the French President asked Mr. Zelensky about his stay in France for the G7 conference. Mr. Zelensky announced that his visit would be brief and that he would only be able to stay for one more full day. He stated that his tight schedule required him to leave soon, as he planned to go to Brussels on Thursday, according to audio recordings from the meetings.
Later, wandering around the garden of the Royal Hotel, Mr. Macron asked whether Mr. Zelensky “had a bilateral relationship.” [unintelligible] is organized”.
“With President Trump?” Mr. Zelensky apparently responded. The leaders spoke quietly for more than twenty seconds before Mr. Macron rejoined more audibly: “Okay, we’ll arrange that,” according to reports Online Mail.
The Ukrainian president met with G7 leaders for talks on the war in his country, initiated by Vladimir Putin in February 2022.
The talks were quickly completed after just 75 minutes. Mr. Zelensky said Ukraine was serious about peace, while Russia was playing with world leaders.
“Today, all ‘Seven’ unanimously support Ukraine,” he said, adding that G7 leaders support Ukraine’s need for more Patriot missiles and have discussed how production could be increased by licensing production.
Patriot missiles can counter Russian ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine’s power grid and cities.
Mr Trump said of the conflict’s death toll: “This whole thing is ridiculous. So yeah, I’ll do what I can.”
At the G7 meeting, Mr. Trump also mentioned the US-Iran ceasefire agreement, the text of which has not yet been made public.
G7; It consists of France, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. Other guest countries, including Brazil, India, Kenya and South Korea, were invited to participate in some discussions.
