Zomato-parent Eternal gets ₹3.69 crore GST penalty notice over short payment of output tax — Here’s what we know

Eternal, the parent company of online food delivery giant Zomato, received an award 3.69 crore goods and services tax (GST) penalty notice following the company’s alleged failure to pay output tax for the period between April 2019 and March 2020, according to a stock exchange filing on Tuesday (January 6, 2026).

“The company received an order from the Additional State Tax (Appeals) Commissioner, West Bengal, on January 6, 2026, approving the GST claim for the period from April 2019 to March 2020,” the company said in its filing to the stock exchanges.

How much is the GST penalty?

In its BSE filing, the company disclosed that the Additional Commissioner of State Tax, West Bengal, has sought GST penalty. 3,69,80,242 or more 3.69 crore.

The total penalty amount includes: 1,92,43,792 along with GST claim. 1,58,12,070 interest and penalty 19,24,380 according to the announcement.

“A demand order has been received for the payment of the output tax together with interest and penalty within a short period of time,” the company said in its application.

Eternal plans to appeal the GST penalty claim to the appropriate authority, as the firm believes it has a strong case on the merits.

Eternal informed the exchanges through its application: “We believe that we have strong evidence on the merits, supported by the opinions of our external legal and tax advisors. The company will appeal the decision to the relevant authority.”

Eternal share price

Eternal shares closed with a 0.79 percent increase 280.95 after Wednesday’s stock market session According to BSE data, it was at 278.75 at the previous stock market close.

Eternal’s shares have risen more than 122% since its listing on the Indian stock exchange, giving investors over 11% return on their investment in the last one-year period.

The company’s shares lost 1.67% in the last one-month period and traded 0.46% lower in the last five trading sessions on the stock exchange.

Eternal shares hit 52-week high 52-week low at 368.40 on October 16, 2025 BSE data shows 189.60 on April 7, 2025. Market value of the company (M-Cap), 2.71 trillion as of the stock market close on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
