Zomato users can disable contact-sharing — CEO Aditya Mangla shows the simple fix

Aditya Mangla, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of food delivery at online food delivery platform Zomato, in a recent social media post on LinkedIn, explained that users can withdraw their consent from the restaurant’s contact sharing feature at any time.
Zomato food delivery CEO Aditya Mangla’s statement comes after people raised concerns about how Zomato will use their personal data when the contact sharing feature is enabled.
“An important clarification: Customers can withdraw their consent at any time,” Aditya Mangla said in his latest post on LinkedIn. Mangla also underlined that once phone numbers are shared with restaurants, they cannot be retrieved.
Mangla further explained that Zomato launched this feature after restaurants wanted to establish a direct line with their customers and since there is a need for a balance of choice in this regard, they are now giving customers a choice.
“We developed this feature because restaurant partners wanted to have a direct line with customers. We created controls because customers deserve choice. Both are important,” said Aditya Mangla.
How to disable Zomato contact sharing?
Zomato CEO Aditya Mangla highlighted a step-by-step process for users who want to disable Zomato’s restaurant contact sharing feature, which will stop contact sharing with partner restaurants in the future.
Step 1: Open the Zomato app
Step 2: Go to your profile section in the app
Step 3: Select “Get news from restaurants”
Step 4: Click “Stop sharing now”
However, turning off this option will only apply to orders from the online food delivery portal. Contact information shared with restaurants from which orders have previously been placed cannot be retrieved.
“That’s it. Future orders, future restaurants; your number will remain with us,” said Mangla, explaining that if this feature is disabled, Zomato will not share your number with restaurants.
What is Zomato’s contact sharing feature?
In early November 2025, Zomato launched its restaurant contact sharing feature in the early stages, giving customers the option to receive direct marketing and promotional updates from the restaurants they order from.
In a social media post dated November 20, 2025, CEO Aditya Mangla said that the restaurant contact sharing feature will only share the user’s phone number with restaurants and will not share any other information with the online food delivery provider’s partners.
“We at Zomato are in the early stages of launching a feature on the app that gives customers the option to receive marketing and promotional updates directly from the restaurants they then order from,” Mangla said in a previous post on LinkedIn.
According to the executive, the company launched this feature with the aim of connecting restaurant partners and customers through a direct line.
