There were enough delicious options at the Thanksgiving box office to deliver one of the best holiday performances ever.

Managed by Disney’s “Zootopia 2,” which collected an estimated $156 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, collected about $294 million. That number won’t be finalized until Monday, when all Sunday’s ticket sales are tallied, but it would represent the third or fourth best Thanksgiving shopping of all time.

The fourth-highest Thanksgiving holiday box office gross is currently $291.3 million in 2012, while the third-highest is 2013’s $294.2 million, according to data from Comscore.

At the box office, the 2025 Thanksgiving season is smaller than both 2018’s $315.6 million and 2024’s record-breaking $424.9 million, but it’s still breaking records.

IMAX It reported its best five-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend ever, with $40.8 million in global ticket sales; This is 70% higher than the previous record set during the same period in 2024.

“‘Zootopia 2’ and ‘Wicked: For Good’ delivered a spectacular one-two punch for the Thanksgiving holiday, hitting the sweet spot for family audiences and pushing our global box office well beyond expectations,” IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said in a statement Sunday. he said.

Disney also met many benchmarks.

Biggest animated box office ever

“Zootopia 2” had the highest global opening of all time with an estimated $556 million. The company reported that this was the fourth highest global opening of all time.

“The Disney brand, combined with PG-rated family movie extravaganza and the beloved original, delivered a staggering global result for ‘Zootopia 2,’ pushing the film to over half a billion dollars worldwide,” Paul Dergarabedian, head of market trends at Comscore, told CNBC. “This movie is truly a hit with family audiences around the world.” [are] “I’m calling on my way to the cinema.”

Universal’s “Wicked: For Good” added an estimated $93 million to the domestic box office during the five-day Thanksgiving period; That’s less than the $118 million “Wicked” made in the same period in 2024.

Still, box office experts expected ticket sales for “Wicked: For Good” and “Zootopia 2” to continue rising in the weeks before Christmas and the release of Disney’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”

“This holiday weekend now sets the stage for a solid final year at the box office, and with a wide variety of films on the way, including notable blockbusters and award nominees, it’s a welcome conclusion after a very tumultuous post-summer season for the industry,” Dergarabedian said.
