1.07 Crore People Set To Mark Yoga Day In AP

Vijayawada: More than 1.07 crore people registered to attend the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, surpassing the state’s target of 1.04 crore participants.

Andhra Pradesh is the only state to conduct a series of yoga programs across the state from June 7 to 19 ahead of International Yoga Day. The initiative included yoga sessions at village and district secretariats, Anganwadi centres, schools, colleges, beaches and other public places.

The state government has promoted yoga not only as a form of physical exercise but also as a way of life. Registrations under the campaign exceeded the target set by the government.

The state-level International Yoga Day program will be held at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on Sunday. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, other ministers, public representatives and senior officials are expected to attend.

The state also aims to be in the World Book of Records by training 2.6 lakh yoga instructors, officials said.
