1,308 Accident Black Spots Fixed across Telangana, 205 Works Underway: Centre

Hyderabad: According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, there are 1,513 accident black spots in Telangana, of which 1,308 have been corrected while 205 are in various stages of completion.

Among the total blackheads, Khammam has 131 blackheads; the highest is in Telangana, followed by 107 in Jagtial and 83 in Mancherial region. Remediation work has been completed in 125, 99 and 79 black spots in Khammam, Jagtial and Mancherial districts respectively, while work is ongoing in the remaining ones.

There are 22 blackheads in Hyderabad. Corrections have been completed in 15 of these, and various stages of completion are ongoing in the remaining 7.

The ministry stated that 1,513 accident black spots have been identified on the National Highway in Telangana based on road accidents that occurred in 2016-18, 2018-20, 2019-21 and 2020-22. The necessary temporary correction measures for most of the accident black spots have already been completed.

Funds amounting to approximately Rs. 1023 crore has been allocated for remediation of accident black spots in Nizamabad and Jagtial districts.

Improving the works of the National Highway, including the construction of bridges, ring road and safety measures, is a continuous process. Improvement works on NH-63, NH-61 and NH44, including road safety aspects at Nizamabad and Jagtial, are in the planning and implementation stages under different National Highway development programmes.

The status of road safety interventions in Telangana is reviewed from time to time in accordance with existing policies and priorities.

This was stated by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari while responding to a question from BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri on ‘Black spot correction and road safety’ in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
