In a fresh escalation of violence, suspected Kuki militants carried out a bomb attack in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, killing two minor children and wounding their mother, officials said.
The incident took place around 01:00 in the morning, when a bomb thrown by suspected militants fell on a civilian house in Moirang Tronglaobi, killing a 5-year-old boy and a 6-month-old girl.
All three were sleeping in their bedrooms when the bomb exploded in the house.
The low-lying Moirang Tronglaobi is located close to the hill districts of Churachandpur and witnessed sustained gunfire during the peak of ethnic conflicts in 2023 and 2024.
Meanwhile, local BJP MLA Th Shanti Singh strongly condemned the “brutal attack” “allegedly carried out by Kuki narco-terrorists” in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai.
“This heinous act is nothing short of an act of terrorism. Such inhumane acts have no place in our society and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” he said.
“I pay my sincerest respect to the innocent lives lost, namely a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl, who were taken away in such a cold-blooded manner. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this time of unimaginable pain,” the MLA said.
