DMK sets up panel for seat-sharing talks ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu polls
DMK General Secretary Durai Murugan announced in his statement that the party headquarters has set up a panel to conduct negotiations with its allies as part of early preparations for the upcoming elections.
The committee will be chaired by party Treasurer TR Baalu. Other members of the panel include Chief Secretary KN Nehru, Deputy General Secretaries Tiruchi Siva and A Raja, Organizing Secretary RS Bharathi and Senior Executive Committee members EV Velu and MRK Panneerselvam.
The formation of the committee comes as the DMK has started preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections. The panel is expected to engage with alliance partners to finalize seat allocations and strengthen coordination ahead of the elections.
The statement continued by stating that further negotiations with allies are likely to be held in the coming months due to the increasing intensity of political activities in the state.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday gave a signal of confidence ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections and stated that the DMK government will return to power for the second consecutive term.
During the Interim Budget debate in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Friday, Stalin reviewed his government’s five-year journey and outlined his vision for the future. Addressing the parliament, the Prime Minister said, “The ‘Dravid Model 2.0’ government we will establish will exceed even our own achievements. We will win again. We will re-establish the government.”
Meanwhile, the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly will go to polls in the first half of 2026. In 2021 polls, DMK won 133 seats in 2021 Assembly polls. Congress won 18, PMK 5, VCK 4 and others 8.
AIADMK won 66 seats in the elections. The Congress-formed DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) collectively won 159 seats, while the NDA won 75 seats.
