2 Killed in Noida Apartment Fire; Landlord Arrested
Two people died in a fire that broke out in a multi-storey building in Noida village on Wednesday, police said. Approximately 50 people were rescued. A man and a woman were taken to hospital after inhaling the smoke, but it was too late to save them.
A large number of families live as tenants in ground plus four buildings in Mamura village in Sector 66. The homeowner was arrested.
It appears that the fire started from a two-wheeled electric vehicle being charged inside the building. Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Mishra said the disease had spread to nearby petrol-powered two-wheelers parked on the premises.
Immediately after the fire was reported, fire trucks, including the hydraulic platform, were dispatched to the scene and most residents were evacuated safely.
“Two people, who were already suffering from health problems, fell ill after inhaling the smoke and were taken to the district hospital by ambulance,” Mishra told reporters.
