2026 FIFA World Cup Matches 2018 & 2022 Combined Red Card Tally with 8 Dismissals

– Inglewood: According to Fox Sports, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has matched the total number of red cards in 2018 and 2022, with eight dismissals recorded so far.
The latest incident occurred in Belgium’s Group G match against Iran, when Nathan Ngoy was sent off in the 66th minute for a foul on Mehdi Taremi. Belgium was left with 10 men and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Six of the eight red cards shown in the tournament so far were direct red cards; This shows a sharp increase in disciplinary penalties compared to previous tournaments. There were only four red cards in both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Other dismissals include Paraguay’s Miguel Almirón following a VAR review, Qatar’s Assim Madibo and Homam Ahmed against Canada, Bosnia’s Tarik Muharemović against Switzerland and Mexico’s César Montes against South Africa.
While the tournament is still in its infancy, referees could soon surpass the 10 red card limit seen in 2014 and potentially approach the record of 17 dismissals set in 2010.
