240 Motorists Held in Weekend Drunken Drive in Cyberabad
Hyderabad: Cyberabad traffic police conducted a special drunken driving enforcement operation over the weekend, resulting in 240 offenders being caught.
Of the 240 offenders, 193 were cyclists, 9 were three-wheeler drivers and 38 were four-wheeler drivers. 199 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 36 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml, 32 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, and nine offenders had BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic I, Ranjan Ratan Kumar said that all the culprits will be produced before the relevant court.
Siberabad police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence. If anyone is found to be driving drunk and causing a fatal accident, they will be considered under Article 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Guilty murder not considered murder).
The maximum penalty under this article is 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine. Last week, between 6 and 11 April, 86 DD cases were heard in the courts; In these cases, two people received prison sentences, one person received a fine and social services, and 83 people received only a fine.
