4 TCS employees get judicial custody till May 18 in male colleague’s religious conversion case

Nashik: A court in Maharashtra’s Nashik on Tuesday remanded four Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employees to judicial custody till May 18 in connection with the alleged conversion of their male colleagues.The four accused – Raza Rafiq Memon (35), Tausif Bilal Attar (37), Ejaz Sheikh of Denmark (32) and Shahrukh Husain Shaukat Qureshi (34) are also accused of sexually harassing some of their female colleagues in the local unit of the leading global IT services, consultancy and business solutions organisation.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) took the accused into custody on April 23 under sections 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (act aimed at outraging the modesty of a woman), 299 (intentional and malicious acts intended to insult religious sentiments) and 302 (intentional intent to injure the religious sentiments of any person) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

They were previously held in police custody until May 5. After their custody period ended on Tuesday, they were produced before Additional Chief Magistrate SV Lad.


At the hearing, the prosecutor requested that the suspects be placed under judicial custody. Accepting the request, the court decided to send the four defendants to judicial detention until May 18.
TCS has stated that it has long adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of harassment and pressure and employees who were allegedly involved in sexual harassment at its Nashik office have been suspended.
