Byd There is a backup plan Nvidia The Chinese electric car manufacturer’s senior executive told CNBC on Tuesday.
BYD Deputy General Manager Stella Li said that the company did not receive any directives from the Chinese government to stop using Nvidia chips – but if so, she said that she has B plan B.
“Everyone has a backup. Byd [a] The backup said, “Li CNBC told Dan Murphy.
Li refused to expand what the plan was, but pointed out the global semiconductor shortage of the automobile industry, which pointed to the global semiconductor shortage. Byd had “no problem” at the time, because he developed most of his technology within the company, so he was able to supply alternatives quickly.
Indeed, BYD tried to control most of the supply chain from production to development of their own batteries.
Li said, “Very strong in the company … We have deeper technologies, so we always have backups,” he said.
Nvidia, supporting most of the world’s artificial intelligence development, caught cross-fire between US-China tensions. The company’s H20 AI chip-especially designed to comply with the US export restrictions-was pre-prohibited, and this year it was allowed to be sold in China after a revenue sharing agreement between Washington and Nvidia.
Now, China’s local technology companies are reported to prevent Nvidia from buying AI chips.
However, Nvidia designs a completely different semiconductor set for cars.
Nvidia Drive Agx Orin, one of Nvidia’s systems, is designed to enable cars to perform some driving tasks autonomously. BYD is the customer of this product.
So far, there is no indication that the Chinese government wants to ban this NVIDIA system.
Li added that BYD was not told to stop using any NVIDIA products and that Beijing is not likely to ban the US company’s automatic chips.
Orum I don’t think no country will do it, because it will kill Nvidia, Li Li said. “So Nvidia is now the highest market value company, so if they lose the big market from China … Nobody wants to see it.”
