Poundland closing 6 stores today – full list of 64 UK store closures in 2025 | UK | News

Poundland will close six stores today and the discount retailer continued its major restructuring plan, while negotiating hunters throughout England.

The shops that cover their doors today are located in Havant, Newport, Ripley, Swanley, Uttoxter and Partick. Meanwhile, the chain confirmed that two additional outputs will be closed later this year: Market Harborough on October 9 and Carlisle on 9 November. These closes are part of a wider tremor that 67 stores, a move designed to save the high street giant fighting.

The restructuring plan approved by the Supreme Court in August came a few days before Poundland faced the threat of collapse. At the beginning of the process, Poundland operated about 800 stores, but the retailer is now waiting to maintain 650 to 700 output.

Using 14,700 personnel, chain has faced financial pressures in recent years. The new owner Gordon Brothers acquired the company in June for £ 1 and promised to invest £ 90 million to save the job. The plan includes the closure of 68 stores, the cutting of about 1,000 work and the closing of two warehouses affecting 350 workers. It also includes rent discounts at 180 locations and Poundland’s frozen food operation and the closure of the website.

However, all planned closures will not continue. At the beginning of this week, the retailer, Irvine, Brighton, Anniesland and Whitby announced that 11 stores that were initially allocated for closure would remain open. The seven closure planned on non -specified sites were also canceled.

Chain has already removed the Poundland Perks loyalty program, customers were able to use prize coupons until January 15, 2026. Darton Frozen and Digital Distribution Center will be closed later this year and then the Bilston National Distribution Center will follow the beginning of 2026.

As part of the restructuring, Poundland launched discount sales of up to 90% in several stores and focuses on basic £ 1 offer. The retailer has priced 1 £, £ 2 and £ 2 in all stores, 60% of grocery products are currently priced to 1 £, 20% of £ 2 and 20%, and aims to recover customers through value.

Closes are an important moment for the UK discount sector while trying to balance Poundland operations and secure their long -term future.
