Bondi Rescue star Harries Carroll’s incredible act on a Hawaiian holiday

Bondi Rescue star Harries Carroll has been hailed as a hero for saving the life of a three-year-old boy while on holiday with his family in Hawaii.

In her Instagram post, Carroll said the “most incredible feeling” was seeing the child begin to breathe after drowning.

“After reviewing the camera footage, we learned that this baby struggled in the water for approximately four minutes, then floated face down for approximately two minutes until someone noticed and picked him up from the water,” the post said.

“Two minutes face down in water is a long time to be without oxygen.”

The experienced lifeguard, who has been saving lives and keeping people safe at Bondi Beach for three decades, decided to share the post because he feared the outcome might have been different had he not been there.

“My wife and children witnessed this and they know I know what to do if such a tragic event were to happen again,” he said.

“We all need to know what we need to do.

“Do whatever it takes to teach your children to swim and swim, and make sure you know CPR at all costs.”

The post received great reactions from fans who said they were proud of the lifeguard who saved the young girl’s life and described him as a real hero.

“A huge legend like Harries being around feels like a blessing from the universe,” one person commented.

According to Surf Life Saving (SLS), lifesavers across Australia save around 30 lives every day and implement more than 450 measures per hour.

More than 50 people drowned on beaches across Australia in the 2024-25 financial year, and 95 per cent of those who died were men.

An SLS spokesman said drownings had a devastating impact on families and their loved ones and could have been much worse had lifesavers failed to carry out more than 5,000 rescues or take a million preventive actions throughout the year.
