The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Thursday, October 16, 2025, said its senior leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Fatehpur on Friday, October 17, 2025, to meet the family members of Hariom Valmiki, a Dalit man who was allegedly lynched, reaffirmed the party’s resolve to stand with the victims of injustice.

UP Congress president Ajay Rai said, “Every district in UP faces daily atrocities against common people. All sections (women, youth, farmers, poor, outcasts) are suffering under this government. Police and administration are either absent or aiding anti-social elements. Rahul ji and Congress stand with the victims of injustice and their families. Rahul ji visits Hariom’s family to show solidarity.” he said.

Hariom was accused of theft and lynched by a mob in Raebareli on 1 October. In one video, Hariom is seen lightly chanting words including “Rahul Gandhi” while men beat him. The attackers continued by saying, “Everyone here is with Baba.”

The incident sparked an uproar and led the Raebareli police to arrest five people, suspend three officers and transfer SHO Sanjay Kumar.

Mr Rai said the Congress was planning to launch a mass movement against UP’s “deteriorating law and order” situation.

“Like the Raebareli case, similar incidents are happening in UP. The administration even prevented me and the Congress delegation from visiting Hariom’s family. The party is considering launching a mass movement against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state,” Mr. Rai added.
