Police van set on fire at protest outside asylum seeker hotel

Irish police were attacked during a protest outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Dublin.

Footage taken from the scene at the Citywest Hotel shows a police car on fire.

Broadcaster RTÉ reported that thousands of people had gathered outside the hotel.

Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said there was “no excuse” for the scenes of violence in Dublin.
