Three arrested within 12 hours of firing on cow protection group member in Hyderabad

Pocharam IT Corridor Police arrested three persons within 12 hours of a shooting incident in Ghatkesar’s Yamnampet that left a 28-year-old man critically injured. Police also seized a village-made gun, a car and mobile phones from the suspect.

The arrested were identified as Muhammad Ibrahim Qureshi, 24, a cattle transporter from Bandlaguda; Kuruva Srinivas, 29, a farmer from Shabad, and Hassan bin Mosin, 22, from Kalapathar, are also involved in the cattle transportation business. Another accused, 34-year-old Muhammad Haneef Qureshi from Rajendranagar, is still at large.

The victim, 28-year-old Bidla Prashanth Kumar alias Sonu Singh, a resident of Rampally in Keesara, was an active member of Gau Rakshak Dal (a cow protection group), Rachakonda police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said.

The case was registered reading with Sections 109 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25(1)(a) and 27 of the Arms Act, 1959.

According to the officer’s statement, around 5 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Prashanth was called to Yamnampet by his friend Srinivas. “When he arrived, he found Srinivas with Ibrahim, Haneef and Hassan. During their meeting, the men reportedly confronted him for exposing their illegal cattle transport activities. The argument escalated and Ibrahim allegedly pulled out a gun from his car and shot Prashanth on the right side of his chest before fleeing from there,” the officer said.

The police arrived at the scene and took the injured to a private hospital in Medipally. Due to the severity of his injury, he was later shifted to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad for emergency surgery. Doctors removed a bullet from his body, while police collected bloody clothes and other evidence.

Investigations revealed that the attack was carried out out of both revenge and a financial dispute. Police said the prime accused Ibrahim suffered a loss of ₹1 crore after he stopped several cattle transport vehicles of the victim. Additionally, Prashanth allegedly demanded ₹ 5 lakh from Ibrahim to stop interfering with his activities.

The police formed special teams and arrested three of the four accused from Shemshabad in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025. A car (AP 09 CK 4788), 3 mobile phones and a village-made gun used in the crime were seized from the suspects. Police teams also found two empty cartridges and cigarette butts at the scene.

Commissioner Sudheer Babu said that the accused had several previous cases related to illegal cattle transportation and cruelty to animals registered at Mulugu, Gajwel, Shamshabad Rural and Ghatkesar police stations. Ibrahim also has an extortion case registered at Kamatipura Police Station in 2022.
