A 49-year-old woman is in hospital under police guard after a nine-year-old girl died and two children were injured in the Oxfordshire village of Islip.
Thames Valley Police said on Friday night they were not looking for anyone else in connection with Tuesday’s incident.
They said: “At around 11.15am on Tuesday 21/10, officers were called to a property in Middle Street following reports that three children had been attacked.
“Tragically, a nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other children, a boy and a girl, were taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.
“An autopsy was performed but the cause of death could not be determined pending further investigation.
“The girl’s family is being supported by specially trained family liaison officers and has asked for privacy at this difficult time.”
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Amy Fox said: “Firstly we offer our deepest condolences to the boy’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him. “This is an unimaginable tragedy and we are doing everything we can to support those affected.
“A 49-year-old woman from Oxfordshire has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently under police bed watch. “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this time.
“The incident at the property is now over, but officers will continue to be in the area throughout the weekend and we would encourage anyone with concerns or information to speak to them.”
This remains a highly sensitive and complex investigation. “I want to sincerely thank the community for their understanding and patience as we work to uncover the full circumstances.”
