Suits you Sir! Victoria’s special gift for David on day he becomes a knight revealed by KATIE HIND

It was a dream Sir David Beckham never thought would come true.

After years of disappointment, the former England football captain will travel to Windsor Castle today to receive his knighthood. And if the rumors are true, this honor will be bestowed by the King himself.

He will be flanked by his proudly smiling wife, Victoria, who gave David a very special gift to commemorate his appointment.

The Daily Mail can reveal the fashion designer made the suit for her husband as he was honored for his services to sport and charity.

Not only is this not the first time Victoria, 51, has created a men’s morning outfit, complete with a frock, but it’s also the first time she’s had David, famous for his fashion choices, create any piece of clothing.

The secret project began in June when the couple learned the former Manchester United star would be knighted in the King’s Birthday Honors.

A friend of the couple told the Daily Mail: ‘David has been teasing Victoria about never making clothes for her. ‘So when they learned in the spring that David would be having his big day in Windsor later in the year, Victoria decided she had enough time to make it happen.

‘He had never done anything like this before and was aware it would be time consuming, but Victoria knew the investment would be some distance away,’ my source said.

‘Victoria got to work, designing the three-piece suit and, as she doesn’t do anything by halves, she threw herself into it and made sure it was absolutely perfect.

‘David wearing a Victoria Beckham outfit will make a special day even more special.’

Sir David, who turns 50 in May, attended several rehearsals in his wife’s workshop at their offices in West London and is said to be “extremely happy” with the results.

The fashionistas’ only foray into menswear so far has been to create more casual outfits for their youngest son, Cruz, 20, to wear at the Paris Fashion Week shows.

Victoria’s foray into men’s fashion comes just weeks after the release of Victoria Beckham’s three-part Netflix series, which reveals what goes on behind the scenes of the clothing and beauty empire she launched in 2008.

In one scene of the show, Victoria was seen handing out clothes for the 2024 fashion show in Paris, prompting David to ask her why she wasn’t doing anything. ‘You never ask,’ he replied.

The documentary also touched on the financial difficulties endured by Victoria, who was awarded the OBE in 2017, as her business lost millions of pounds and had to be supported by her husband’s funds.

Today, David will be joined by his beloved mother Sandra, who will remain faithful to the family business by wearing a dress by VB, and his father Ted, who separated from his wife in 2002 after 33 years of marriage. This will be their first trip to such an event, with Becks taking along his maternal grandparents Joe and Peggy, who have since passed away, when he received his OBE in 2003.

But David’s beloved grandparents will not be far from his thoughts as he stands before King Charles today.

As a young child, they would take him and his sisters, Lynne and Joanne, to the Horse Guards Parade to watch Trooping The Colour. David also tells how he would see his grandfather stand up for the Queen’s Christmas Day speech. ‘David’s parents had never been there before,’ his friend said. ‘He chose to take his grandparents along because he knew how important this would be to them.

‘They admired the Royal Family and were staunch monarchists who had great respect for the late Queen.’

David will then hold a small celebration for his close friends and family. Their children Romeo, Cruz and Harper are also expected to attend; but unfortunately it goes without saying that eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola will not be able to attend, amid a family dispute that shows no signs of ending.

The couple skipped all celebrations for David’s 50th birthday in May this year and there has been no contact between them and Posh and Becks since.

When it was announced in the spring that his father would be knighted, Brooklyn neither publicly nor privately congratulated him, while his other two sons made a big fuss about the news on social media.

In fact, this time ten years ago, receiving a knighthood would have been unimaginable for the former England captain.

He was on the verge of being crowned ‘Sir’ in 2014, but concerns were later raised after he became involved in a tax evasion scheme thought to be legitimate.

And in February 2017, he targeted the honors committee for removing himself from the gong list, shattering his hopes for the honour.

In later leaked emails, the usually charming and mostly mild-mannered David called them ‘unappreciative assholes’ and insisted he ‘didn’t care about the title of knight’.

But he has since put his tax affairs in order and received support for the award from Unicef, the charity he has worked with for more than 20 years, and the British Fashion Council.

Both organizations discussed whether they should feature Beckham and received very positive feedback.

It appears some of the people involved in the decision were very impressed by David’s birthday fundraiser; Instead of gifts, David asked people to donate to the fund to help children around the world, especially girls.

A friend said: ‘He never took it for granted but he was very honored and excited.’

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect for David; friends say this coincided with the milestone year when he turned 50.

This also comes at a time when his closeness to the King is also increasing.

They met at the British Fashion Council awards in May 2023, when David presented her with a jar of his homemade honey called ‘D Bee’z Sticky Stuff’, which he made at the couple’s Grade II-listed barn in Great Tew, Oxfordshire.

The king was stunned to learn of David’s hobby, and their conversation quickly turned to their shared love of bees.

They also met at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Fair in May this year.

The King invited him to Highgrove, where he asked him to join his foundation, and today the King is expected to grant David the honor he has desired for decades by placing a ceremonial sword first on his right shoulder and then on his left.

Then ‘Arise, Sir David!’ situation will arise.
