Mum-of-two found with ‘throat slashed’ named locally after brutal hotel attack | UK | News
A mother of two, whose throat was allegedly cut in front of a hotel in Ireland, died; It turned out that the woman had previously expressed her concerns to the police about her suspected killer.
She was identified as 31-year-old Masuma Sohrabi, an Iranian woman in Galway known locally as Atijafari. He was found dead with horrific neck injuries outside the International Protection Accommodation Service center in Co Galway after being reported missing on Wednesday 27 May.
The tragedy occurred near Galway Road in Clifden on Thursday. Police, known as Gardaí, were called to the scene by staff at the accommodation centre.
A man, also in his 30s, was arrested and is currently receiving medical treatment. It is believed that both people are foreign nationals.
An Garda Síochána has confirmed that it is not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident and is conducting a definitive investigation.
The victim, known to most friends only as ‘Athija’, leaves behind a five-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy; They both attend a local Clifden school. According to local residents, he worked at a hotel in the area and came to the country from Tehran, escaping from the Iranian regime in search of a brighter future.
PK Joyce, who runs the Waterloo House accommodation where she lived, paid an emotional tribute to her, telling the Irish Mirror how she strived to master English and Irish and give her children better opportunities in life.
“I want you to get the message out to people that she was a lovely woman. She was a wonderful mother. She came here for a new life and she really adapted extraordinarily well,” Mr Joyce said.
“When he arrived he had very little English but he tried to learn it and with a cúpla like Gaeilge he was the focus. He really wanted to adapt and establish a home for his two children and he did this successfully until yesterday.”
“She was loved by all of us and made a huge impact on all of our lives with what she went through. We are very sorry to see her go this way. We want people to know that she was a very nice woman.”
She and her children had been residing in the Clifden area for the past year, during which time she was working at a local hotel in the town.
His body is expected to be removed from its location. Gardaí confirmed this will happen in due course and a post-mortem examination is planned to follow.
Although it is understood that a murder investigation is expected to be launched, Gardaí have stated that the autopsy findings will play an important role in determining the direction of the ongoing investigation.
