Sheffield ‘Good Samaritan’ killer Hassan Jhangur jailed for life

A man who killed a passerby while driving into a crowd at his sister’s wedding has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder.
Hassan Jhangur, 25, killed Chris Marriott, 46, by deliberately crashing his Seat Ibiza into the group in Burngreave, Sheffield, in December 2023.
“Good Samaritan” Mr Marriott, who stopped to help Jhangur’s sister when she collapsed during an earlier scuffle, died at the scene while four other people were seriously injured.
In a statement read to the court on Thursday, Mr Marriott’s wife of 16 years, Bryony, described her husband as “genuine, kind and loving” and said his death would affect her and their two sons “for the rest of our lives”.
Jailing him for at least 26 years at Sheffield Crown Court, Judge Morris said the attack was a “deliberate and senseless act of angry violence” that resulted in Mr Marriott’s death and had life-changing consequences for many people.
