Massive effigy of under-fire PM Sir Keir Starmer is set alight at Guy Fawkes night event

Another giant statue of under-fire Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was set on fire at Guy Fawkes Night celebrations this evening, just days after other giant statues of him were burned at a Bonfire Night event in East Sussex.
The 36-metre-tall statue was lit during the annual Edenbridge bonfire celebrations in Edenbridge, Kent, on 8 November.
The Prime Minister was depicted as a Capotain hat-wearing Guy Fawkes with a digital ID tucked into his belt, mocking Sir Keir’s mandatory digital ID plan.
Wearing a ruffled ruffle often associated with Fawkes and flip-flops, the giant face also carried a large red badge reading ‘Starmer The Farmer Harmer’ and held a billboard with the words ‘Fucking up to Trump’ written in capital letters.
Laura Lawrence, of Edenbridge Bonfire Society, said: ‘This year’s effigy features Guy Fawkes’ collar and hat for the first time because we think Starmer is pretty good at single-handedly igniting Parliament at the moment.
Giant statues of Sir Keir were dragged through the streets earlier in the week, while the embattled Prime Minister was also mocked at Bonfire Night festivities in Lewes, East Sussex.
He was depicted as a clown surrounded by giant juggling balls bearing the words ‘balls up’, ‘inflation land’ and ‘100 in, one out’, a slap in the face to his premiership.
Another statue showed a wild-looking Sir Keir with sparkling eyes and disheveled glasses holding aloft a dislocated steering wheel as he rode a tractor with ‘total Starmer lie’ emblazoned on the front.

At Edenbridge, Sir Keir was named the centerpiece of this Saturday’s event, beating Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Andrew Tate.

Since 1994, the Edenbridge Bonfire Society has gained fame for using its puppets to poke fun at celebrities, politicians and their decision-making processes.
His previous targets include Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, as well as London Mayor Sadiq Khan and the ULEZ policy.
The band has previously targeted Ticketmaster over anger over the site’s dynamic pricing last year as fans scrambled to get Oasis tickets.
But this year the creators wanted to take the tradition back to its more political roots.
Bill Cummings, chairman of the Bonfire Society, said: ‘This decision is a great opportunity to remind everyone why we have Bonfire Night, a message that has perhaps been forgotten in recent years.’
An effigy at last night’s Lewes Bonfire Night showed a wild-looking Sir Keir, with bright, shiny eyes and disheveled glasses, riding a tractor with the words ‘totally lie Starmer’ emblazoned on the front.
The British public directed its ire towards the under-fire Prime Minister, portraying him as a clown in another puppet.
Among those who became puppets in previous years was former Prime Minister Liz Truss
Sir Keir also has his own connections to the area growing up in nearby Oxted and is said to be part of one of the local football teams in Edenbridge.
Andrea Deans, one of the creators of this year’s statue, said: ‘We think the public has chosen this year well when you look at how the current government treats its citizens.
‘There were many elements we could add to the puppet, and it was interesting to figure out how these could be represented visually.’
