Davina McCall reveals she has undergone surgery for breast cancer | Davina McCall

Davina McCall has revealed she had surgery for breast cancer and urged others to “get checked”.
In a video posted on Instagram, the presenter said she was “so angry” when she learned about the cancer, but felt “in a much more positive place” after the lumpectomy.
McCall said she found a lump that “came and went” a few weeks ago and wanted to have it checked after seeing posters encouraging women to “check your breasts” while working on ITV’s Lorraine show.
She said: “I had breast cancer. A few weeks ago I found a lump. It came and went but then I was working on the TV show The Masked Singer and Lorraine and Lorraine Kelly had put up signs behind all the doors saying ‘check your breasts’ and I did that every time I went to the toilet.
“It was still there, and one morning I saw myself in the mirror and thought: ‘I’ll get this checked out.’
“I had a biopsy. I found out it was actually breast cancer and I had it removed with a lumpectomy almost three weeks ago.”
McCall added: “It was very, very small, so I caught it very, very early, which was incredibly lucky. But I was so relieved to get it up and know it hadn’t spread.”
“My lymph nodes were clear, I didn’t have any removed and the only thing I’m going to do now is have five days of radiotherapy in January as a sort of insurance policy.”
In her post, McCall, 58, paid tribute to medical staff, her family and her partner, hairstylist Michael Douglas.
He said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Royal Marsden. [hospital] …to all the nurses and doctors who helped me, thank you for your support.
“Thank you to my family, extra special thanks to my smart kids and Michael. A lot has happened. I was so angry when I found out, but I let it go and now I feel in a much more positive place.”
She added: “I guess my message is if you’re worried, get it checked, get yourself checked regularly. If you need to get a mammogram, get it. I have dense breasts too and I had a mammogram in August and I was putting off the ultrasound. I just couldn’t find the time to do it. Don’t do it.”
The presenter had surgery for a “very rare” tumor last November. The benign brain tumor, known as a colloid cyst, was found after she was offered a health check as part of her menopause advocacy work.
In a tearful interview earlier this year, McCall said the craniotomy, which required removing part of her skull to remove the tumor, was the “hardest thing” she had ever endured. He said in April that his benign brain tumor “will not come back.”
The former Big Brother presenter has long championed women’s health issues and presented documentaries about birth control and menopause. His best selling book MenopauseWritten with Dr Naomi Potter, the book won book of the year at the British Book Awards 2023.
