Civil Aviation Minister Inaugurates Redeveloped Hanimaadhoo International Airport

Male: Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu attended the inauguration of the redeveloped Hanimaadhoo International Airport (HIA) by Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu. In the official statement of the Office of the Maldivian President, it was stated that Hanimaadhoo International Airport was redeveloped with financing provided through a credit line from EXIM Bank of India. President Muizzu described the project as a catalyst to unlock the potential of the northern Maldives and improve global connectivity and called on all stakeholders to seize this golden opportunity.
He also highlighted the employment opportunities expected to arise from the opening of Hanimaadhoo International Airport. According to the statement made by the Maldivian Presidential Office, the 2,465-meter runway at Hanimaadhoo International Airport was opened by the Maldivian A320 aircraft carrying the President to the ceremony. The flight, commanded by a captain from Hanimaadhoo, was the largest aircraft to ever land at the airport.
It was also stated that the new passenger terminal has the capacity to handle 1.3 million passengers per year, poised to drive transformative economic progress in the northern Maldives. Spanning an area of 10,380 square metres, the facility is equipped with modern facilities designed to support efficient operations.
