Illegal immigrant kills man in Orange County DUI hit-and-run crash

A Mexican national who lived in the U.S. illegally for more than a decade after ignoring a federal deportation order was arrested Friday for allegedly killing a 71-year-old man in a hit-and-run crash in Orange County, California, according to federal law enforcement sources.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle, the Orange County Register reported.
They found 71-year-old Barry William Tutt of La Verne seriously injured. Emergency crews transported Tutt to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Witnesses said a silver Ford sedan fled the scene, and detectives later identified the driver as Humberto Munoz Gatica, 57, of Laguna Niguel, according to The Register.

Gatica was tracked down, arrested on DUI and related charges, and booked into the Orange County Jail. The investigation into the matter continues.
Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that Gatica was first arrested in 2011 by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for being in the country illegally.

He was released with a notice to appear under the Obama administration but never did so, leading a federal immigration judge to order his deportation in absentia in 2012.
Gatica, who lives in California, which describes itself as a sanctuary state, has remained an ICE fugitive since that decision, authorities said.

He was driving drunk and hit and ran Tutt in Dana Point on Friday, authorities said.
Gatica faces charges of driving under the influence causing death or bodily injury and hit-and-run causing death or bodily injury, jail records show.

Federal authorities also told Fox News that Gatica was arrested on a robbery charge in Orange County in 2011 but later pleaded guilty to grand larceny as part of a plea deal.
