‘Smallville’ star reveals Keith Raniere’s manipulation tactics in NXIVM

“Smallville” actress Allison Mack broke her silence on Monday about working with NXIVM cult leader Keith Raniere.
In seven chapters CBC The former child actress described on the podcast “Allison After NXIVM” how Raniere convinced her that a physical relationship was necessary to “heal” her.
Raniere, a self-improvement guru whose organization has attracted millionaires and actresses among its supporters, was sentenced to 120 years in prison in 2020 after being convicted of seven crimes, including racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, forced labor conspiracy, sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and attempted sex trafficking.

After Mack told an NXIVM friend that she was struggling with her sexuality, the actress was encouraged to talk to Raniere about her personal life.
“That’s when I approached Keith and said, ‘I feel like I’m really struggling with my sexuality,'” Mack recalled. “‘I think there were things that went wrong as a child. I don’t feel connected to my sexuality. I’m ashamed of my body and my sexuality. Like, I don’t understand how I can get over it.’ And he said: ‘Well, I can help you with that.'”
“He said, ‘But we need to be physically close so I can help you with this because this is an experiential problem you’re having,'” Mack added.

“‘So theoretically I can’t help you with this. You have to have the experience of going through this process.'”

Somehow, Rainere’s offer made sense to Mack through the NXIVM lens, and that’s how their physical relationship began.
She remembered thinking “this is so weird” as the intimacy began, but she also found solace in believing that Raniere would help her with his own therapeutic method.
“He’s my teacher and he’s going to help me,” Mack recalled. “He called it energy work, so when he was sleeping with you he would say, ‘I’m moving the energy through your body, kind of like Tantric.’
Raniere’s manipulation tactics and NXIVM curriculum led Mack to believe that he was the problem.

“In my head I’m thinking, ‘This is so weird,'” he said, before trying to justify his own thoughts to prove “how dysfunctional” he is.

“This is the safest man you could ever be with, and this is a person who just wants to take care of you and love you. He doesn’t even want anything from you, he just wants to make sure you’re okay.”
Mack was released early from prison in 2023 after serving two years of a three-year sentence on federal racketeering and conspiracy charges.
The actress was arrested in 2018 due to federal charges against her. Participation in NXIVM. Shortly after his arrest, Mack posted a $5 million bond.

Mack originally faced 14 to 17.5 years in prison but was able to get the prison sentence reduced by: cooperating with federal authorities In the case against Raniere.
Mack assisted prosecutors by detailing how Raniere created the private organization. Raniere branded women with his initials, brainwashed them, and forced them to have sex with him.
Before sentencing in federal court, he expressed “remorse and guilt” and admitted to making decisions he will “forever regret.”
“I apologize to the people I brought into NXIVM,” Mack told the court in June 2021. “I’m sorry for subjecting you to the treacherous and emotionally abusive schemes of a twisted man. I apologize from the bottom of my heart and soul.”
