The comments sparked a firestorm of criticism from Republican voices online, as Nevada has the highest share of tipped workers in the country.
“Amazing how far Democrats are from reality. DCCC thinks no tax on tips is ‘crumbs,'” conservative commentator Steve Guest wrote.
“What makes this so bad is that the Democratic party ACTUALLY thinks this way,” White House press secretary Abigail Jackson wrote.
“Nancy Pelosi peddled the same elitist ‘crumbs’ message after Trump and Republicans cut taxes for nearly all working families in 2017,” added Nathan Brand, counsel for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
The Republican Congressional Leadership Fund challenged Titus, Lee and Horsford, saying: “Will you condemn @dccc’s statement that cutting taxes on tips amounts to ‘crumbs?’ Many of your constituents rely on tips to support their families.”
“@dccc’s disdain that No Tax on Tips is ‘crumbs’ is the height of Democrat elitism,” wrote Christian Martinez, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee.

Although all three Democrats supported the policy of no tip tax, they voted against the “big, beautiful bill” that included the policy.
Martinez said Nevada Democrats’ “voting records say it all” and that “out-of-touch Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steven Horsford are too afraid of their radical, latte-sipping bosses in D.C. to stand up for the workers who keep Nevada running.”
“A party run only by latte liberals who refuse to go to the office thinks their hard-earned tip money is pocket lint,” he said.
The NRCC also asked: “Will Titus, Lee and Horsford side with the workers?”
“National Democrats have mocked Nevada’s waiters, bartenders, cooks, cleaners, vendors and hospitality workers, saying their right to keep their own hard-earned tip money is nothing more than ‘crumbs,'” the NRCC said in a statement. he said.
“This is the shameless party of Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford. They cannot hide their vote AGAINST No Tax on Tips for hard-working Nevadans. If Titus, Lee, and Horsford truly stood with workers, they would condemn these comments and advocate for workers to keep more of their hard-earned money.”

In August, the trio sent a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent “to ensure successful implementation” of the tip-free policy. Lee’s office said in a statement that the letter emphasizes that “the version of ‘No Tax on Tips’ adopted by Republicans in Washington does not fully meet the needs of Nevadans.”
“I believe no one should lose the tips they earn. That’s why I support tip legislation to PERMANENTLY end tip taxes,” Lee said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

DCCC spokesperson Lindsay Reilly also responded to the backlash, telling Fox News Digital: “It is sad that disengaged officials at the NRCC throw tantrums when confronted with the facts.
“Everyone knows the Big, Ugly Bill is a massive tax cut for the richest few that leaves working families footing the bill. So truthand that’s why everyone hates it,” he said. “Voters can see through Republicans’ cheap diversions, and people know their bills don’t provide meaningful relief to ordinary Americans while billionaires just give away the money.”
In response to the theft of Pelosi’s 2017 “crumbs” comment, Pelosi’s office shared a 2018 statement denouncing President Donald Trump’s first-term tax cuts as a hoax and a “monumental theft from the middle class to enrich the richest 1 percent.”
