Bengal teen dies by suicide after AI-generated nude images circulated online

Kolkata: A class 10 student from Sonarpur in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district was found hanging from the ceiling of her room after her artificial intelligence-generated nude images were posted on social media, police said on Friday.

The girl, who was staying at her uncle’s house, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on Thursday night, a police officer said.

“We received a complaint from the area that a married man was harassing her,” he said.

In the complaint, family members alleged that she collected photos of the man and created nude images using artificial intelligence tools, which were then shared online.

“The family also accused the man’s family members of participating in the harassment. They demanded strict legal action against everyone involved,” he said.

The police officer added that preliminary reports suggest that the teenager may have committed suicide due to prolonged mental distress caused by harassment and online abuse.
