Amber warning as month’s worth of rain set to fall in 24 hours | Weather | News

The UK is bracing for a month of rain, although the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning, predicting a major downpour in December.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Wales, while yellow warnings are scattered across the rest of the UK and heavy rain is likely to cause damage.

The Met Office has urged Britons to be prepared for possible flooding as the weather warning begins at midnight on Monday, December 1, and continues throughout the day.

Met Office Senior Meteorologist Marco Petagna suggested that showers were expected across the country and a month’s worth of rain could fall in just 24 hours, according to The Independent.

Speaking on Sunday, Petagna warned: “Later today we will start to see wet and windy weather coming in from the west and then tomorrow we will have a very unstable day for most parts of England, particularly the western parts of England, Wales and south-west Scotland.

“We could see up to 120mm of rain, meaning almost five inches of rain in a few places, which is on top of what has already been a very wet month. We’re likely to see flooding issues by tomorrow, particularly in South Wales.”

In addition to heavy rain, disruptions are also expected, with possible flooding and travel chaos emerging. The Met Office warns that roads could be forced to close, with bus and train services potentially being cancelled.

The heaviest showers will hit South Wales from late Sunday into Monday, with the risk of landslides on both natural and infrastructure slopes.

ScotRail took precautions against rainy weather by imposing speed limits on some routes in anticipation of rain.

In addition to the amber warning, a rain warning was also issued for other parts of Scotland and England.

Flooding and flooding in these areas may cause difficult driving conditions and some road closures are likely. Power outages are also possible, forecasters say.

Households are advised to prepare a flood kit before a flood to be prepared for any eventuality.
