The White House on Monday released new details about President Donald Trump’s October MRI, offering a more comprehensive explanation for the procedure after questions about why the 79-year-old Trump underwent advanced imaging at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read aloud from a summary at her daily press briefing, saying the MRI was part of Trump’s “comprehensive administrative examination” and was ordered because men in his age group “would benefit from a comprehensive evaluation of cardiovascular and abdominal health.”
The White House has stated that the imaging is routine and preventative, aimed at detecting potential problems early and verifying overall function. According to Trump’s doctor, Dr. Sean BarbabellaCardiovascular imaging showed no evidence of arterial narrowing, impaired blood flow, or abnormalities in the heart or large vessels.
He found that the size of the heart chambers was normal, the vessel walls appeared smooth and healthy, and there were no signs of inflammation or clotting. Dr. Barbabella also reported that all major organs appeared healthy and well-blooded, and no acute or chronic problems were detected.
Barbabella said the president’s cardiovascular system is in “excellent health.”
Leavitt explains the MRI in detail and then Dr. Although Barbabella released the memo summarizing the MRI results, the White House stopped short of releasing images of the tests.
Until Monday, the White House described the October visit to Walter Reed as a “follow-up evaluation” that included only “advanced imaging” and offered no explanation for why the procedure was performed.
The statement came as MRI scrutiny intensified over the weekend after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate alongside Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections, reacted to Thanksgiving and called on Trump to announce the results. Real Social post Trump attacked Walz, the state’s Somali community, and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.
Walz later said, “Is there anyone in the history of the world who has had an MRI and, as he says, has no idea what it’s for?” report on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
