Popular product used by diabetes patients recalled in UK over health fears | UK | News

A pharmaceutical giant has issued a widespread product recall affecting 17 countries, including the UK. Abbott is recalling blood sugar sensors due to fears of possible malfunction.

The affected devices are certain FreeStyle Libre 3 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus glucose monitors manufactured by Abbott Diabetes Care. The recall comes amid fears that it may provide inaccurate low glucose readings that could lead to serious health problems for users.

The recall affects multiple countries, including the UK, France and the US. “FDA is aware that Abbott Diabetes Care has issued a letter to distributors, healthcare providers, and affected customers recommending the removal of certain glucose monitoring sensors from locations where they are used or sold,” the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on its website.
