Member of UK armed forces killed after ‘tragic accident’ in Ukraine

A member of the UK armed forces was killed in a “tragic accident” while observing tests of a new defense capability in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense said.

The “tragic accident” on Tuesday morning occurred as the man watched his Ukrainian counterparts test his new defense capability away from the front lines, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement on social media.

The following statements were made in the statement: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of a soldier from the United Kingdom armed forces in Ukraine this morning, Tuesday, December 9th.

“He was injured in a tragic accident while observing Ukrainian forces testing a new defensive capability far from the front lines.

“The family has been notified and our thoughts are with them at this sad and difficult time.”

Defense Secretary John Healey said in a social media post: “I am devastated by the death of a UK service member in Ukraine.

“My thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Our hearts go out to them.”
