Iran threatens ‘swift and decisive’ revenge attack as US bombards Strait of Hormuz | World | News

While the US attacked Tehran’s ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran threatened revenge attacks. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened a “swift and decisive” counter-attack against US attacks on Sirik, state media reported.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the attacks on Friday, calling them “a strong response to yesterday’s attack on a commercial ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.” After Iran hit M/V Ever Lovely with a one-way attack drone on June 25, US planes hit Iran’s missile and drone depots and coastal radar sites.
At the time of the attack, the Singapore-flagged cargo ship was leaving the Bosphorus along the Oman coast. CENTCOM added: “Iranian forces’ unwarranted attack on commercial shipping was a clear violation of the ceasefire.
“Furthermore, Iran’s dangerous behavior has undermined freedom of navigation as trade increasingly flows through the vital international trade corridor.
“CENTCOM forces continue to provide safe passage coordination and support to commercial ships passing through the strait.
“The U.S. military remains ready and vigilant to ensure that all aspects of the agreement with Iran are observed, complied with, and remain in full force.”
Donald Trump had previously hinted that there would be a response to the Iranian attack. When asked if there would be consequences, he said: “You’ll find out.”
He said: “I didn’t like the fact that yesterday they opened fire on a ship, not an allied ship, but a ship, a very expensive ship – actually four, we shot down three. They shouldn’t do that.”
