Oracle says there have been ‘no delays’ in OpenAI arrangement

An Oracle spokesperson did not specify a timeline for enabling cloud computing infrastructure for OpenAI. In September, OpenAI announced a partnership with Oracle worth more than $300 billion over the next five years.

“We have a good relationship with OpenAI,” Clay Magouyrk, one of Oracle’s two newly appointed CEOs, said at an analyst meeting in October.

Doing business with OpenAI is relatively new for 48-year-old Oracle. In the past, Oracle has grown through sales of database software and business applications. Its cloud infrastructure business now contributes more than a quarter of revenue, but Oracle remains a smaller hyperscaler than Oracle Amazon, Microsoft And Google.

OpenAI has also made commitments to other companies to meet expected capacity needs.

In September, Nvidia announced that it had signed a letter of intent with OpenAI to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia equipment for its artificial intelligence initiative in San Francisco. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

OpenAI has relied on Nvidia graphics processing units to run ChatGPT and other products in the past, and is now considering designing custom chips. broadcom.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan on Thursday laid out a timeline for the OpenAI study announced in October. Broadcom and OpenAI said they signed a term sheet.

“More like 2027, 2028, 2029, 10 gigawatts, that was the OpenAI discussion,” Tan said on Broadcom’s earnings call. “And that’s what I call an agreement, an alignment of where we’re going with OpenAI, which is a very respected and valued customer. But we don’t expect much in 2026.”

OpenAI declined to comment.
