Royal Family LIVE: Another blow for Andrew as Sarah Ferguson’s mum says he ‘lacks 1 thing’ | Royal | News

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s former mother-in-law has revealed why she believes his marriage to daughter Sarah Ferguson has broken down. After the couple’s fairytale wedding in 1986, their marriage began to unravel, they separated in 1992, and divorce followed in 1996. According to Andrew Lownie’s new book, Entitled, the former Duchess’s mother, Susan Barrantes, told Italian magazine Gente that if she had “character” perhaps “they wouldn’t have split up”.

“He’s a handsome boy and has a heart of gold that he doesn’t have the money to help someone out, but he doesn’t have any character…absolutely none,” she said. “If he had character, maybe his marriage wouldn’t have broken down.”

Ms. Barrantes’ comments came as the former Duke and Duchess of York’s alleged ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light once again following the posthumous publication of Virginia Giuffre’s memoir Nobody’s Daughter. The couple is expected to move out of their home early next year. Although the date for Andrew’s move to Sandringham Manor in Norfolk has not been officially announced, it is thought that preparations are continuing.
